Thrift Store Cool Find

I stopped by Salvation Army thrift store yesterday and didn't find much. But this I love. This hand embroidered towel and pinned to it was this blue ribbon. 1924!! And the fair entry papers were carefully wrapped up inside the towel. Some little guy made this in 1924 and won a blue ribbon! I love things like this. Wonder if this guy is still alive. If he is, he would probably love to have this back. Most likely he is not and his kids dropped this off with some of his estate items. How sad.

I am such a sucker for old lace, especially if it is hand made, which some of these are. I really have to start doing something with some of these that I collect. I tend to just hoard them!

I finally got my little flower girl basket and ring bearer nest listed again in my Etsy shop. I also have a nest candle listed that goes with the others. I have shown a picture of the ring bearer nest with and without the handfelted eggs. Some people want the eggs and some do not. So I can do it either way that you prefer.

First off- these little hand crocheted outfits i picked up at an estate sale, unfinished. I fininshed them off with some vintage buttons and now they are all ready for a great baby gift or for your own little girl. I thought they were so sweet! I have to guess at the size, but I think maybe about 6 months.

Next, I listed this vase and this old decanter. The decanter has "Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-use of this bottle". I found out that that stamp on the bottle means that it was made between 1932 and 1964. The words were required on liquer bottles after the prohibition was lifted. The cork on the stopper is coming off a little. But other than that , thats the only thing wrong with either of these.

Also found this adorable little creamer. It has an apple painted inside. The pictures of the apple didn't turn out,but it is so cute. And I love this womens apron with all the hand embroidery on it. It doesn't have straps, so I'll have to sew some on. It obviously has never been used either. Then I found these two childrens aprons, one needs straps also. Both of them were very browned with age but washed out very nicely. Love the hand embroidery on both of them.

Apple Trees!

We live in the desert. So we rarely see apple trees. My oldest grandaughter wanted to plant apple seeds a few months ago. so she got on the internet and found out how to get the seeds ready. Wish I would have taken pictures of the seeds then. And had I known they would get as far as they did, I sure would have. they sat in the fridge for weeks, in the wet paper towel and plastic or whatever she put it in. We kept forgetting to wet the paper towels. finally my husband told her lets just try putting them in the soil outside. so they planted them in little rows out in our lawn. We all pretty much forgot about them, and the other day my husband called me outside to look at something. And this is what we saw-------

How cool is that! She is so happy! And so am I. Never thought they would get this far. don't know how long thety will live, but we will enjoy them as long as they do!

My Daughter and grandson have both been sick with the stomach bug.. I sure hope I don't get it!!

Had a great weekend! Saw a couple of good movies, My husband and I took our bicycles down by the beach and rode and watched all the crazy spring breakers partying in the channel. I am trying to get over a cold like just about everyone else I know! Woke up Monday morning with a bit of a scratchy throat. Still felt fine otherwise. so I went to the gym and almost finished my workout when I started feeling worn out. should have stopped right then, but of course , I didn't! Ended up putting my back out. Sooooo, the scratchy throat turned into a cold. And between the cold and the back really screwed up my week!

It's my son's birthday Saturday! he is my youngest and he is turning 32!! Yikes! Doesn't seem possible. So, I really want to feel good this weekend so I can celebrate with them.

I made an impulse stop at one of the local thrift stores a couple of weeks ago (I've been trying to curb my thrift store appetite lately). So, this is what I found. Two of my very favorites. Old lace and old buttons! Yay! I got all this old lace for $3. And there is plenty of it all to actually do something with.

These old buttons, there was a small bag of them, were $1. These are just my favorites out tof the bag. I love these mink ones. Well, don't know if they are actually mink. but they look like some kind of real fur. Aren't they pretty!!

Then I got this complete tatted collar for $1!!! I love it so much! I really want to do something special with it. any ideas? I would love to hear any ideas. I have a bad habit of just hoarding things like this and never putting them to any use.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I have been MIA for way too long! Bad bad blogger!! I'll try to be better.

Well, the holidays were awesome! My son is one of the new guys at his job so he gets to work on the holidays. So we celebrated with he and his family separately. Which I really didn't mind, just kind of stretched the celebrating out a little! I am so fortunate to have all my kiddos here in the same town with us.

I sold my little Ringbearer nest along with a flower girl basket that I made to go with it! I was so happy that someone wanted my creations in their wedding! I'm going to try and get another set of these wedding baskets ready for sale before too long. Wouldn't they be perfect for a spring wedding? Wish I would have thought of them for my wedding! but that was 34 years ago!

I also have an idea for something else to go along with them. Hope the idea comes out good. Hopefully I will be posting pics of that soon!

Ring Bearer Nest

Wanted to show you my new item in my Etsy shop. This is a spin off my nest pin cushions and hanging nests. Something different for an outdoorsy type wedding. The ringbearer nest is about 6" x 6". You can see how perfect it fits in a childs hands. My grandaughter is filling in as the ringbearer. I have a flower girl basket in the works to go with it. I just love this idea.

Busy Times

I don't know why - but it seems like when our work is slow, I am just as busy or busier than ever in the office and running errands. Weird! Anyway- work IS slow, and I HAVE been busy lately. Of course, part of the reason is that my son just graduated from the police academy!!! Yes, he did!! and I just have to brag! He is officially a police officer now! He took home 3 out of 4 awards! That's my son!!!!I am so proud! So, we had some relatives come into town to go to the graduation. And then we had a graduation party to put together. Fun!
So now things are kinda back to normal and I am back to the gym regular and trying to catch up.

Haven't been much in the creative mood lately, so I haven't made a single thing lately. Except for I did make a photo album for my son. I covered it with a rough looking piece of leather and put pictures of him as a baby and growing up. Some of when he was grown and with his little girls and wife. turned out good. Didn't get any pics though!

I am really in the mood lately to finish my long drawn out process of redoing my craft/xtra bedroom. Maybe I will get something done on it now that the company is all gone.

Baby Shower For My Friend

Went to a baby shower for my friend yesterday. Actually, I helped with it and so it was an all day thing. It turned out so nice and was alot of fun. she got mountains of clothes and diapers of course. and silly me forgot my camera! You know how it is sometimes when you just keep adding more things to the presents you give? I thought I was done shopping but I just kept finding more things that I couldn't resist. Anyway, I posted a few posts back some pics of some t-shirts that I gussied up for the baby. Then I found these adorable little iron ons and had to get those and iron them on some onesies.

A Few Garage Sale Finds and a Grapefruit Happy Face

I had every intention of going to a bunch of garage sales last weekend. There have been so many lately because of the economy, I guess. I only managed to go to one which was an estate sale. I went fairly early and they were still putting things out. They told me they would be putting things out all day and let me take a look in the house at all the stuff they still had to get to. Oh my gosh! The house was filled with old stuff. Unfortunately I went back later and they had some friends watching things for them and nothing else had been put out!!! Bummer!

Oh well, I did find a few things that I was excited about. I love this old aluminum Christmas tree! All the branches were there! Nothing missing!! And--- it was in the original box!!

Also found a glass fishermens ball (I guess thats what you call them). And these hand crocheted little jumpers, all done except for putting the buttons on. And a crocheted little sweater that is very tiny. think I will give it to my grandaughters for their baby dolls. and some ribbon bias tape.

I never made it to any other sales. But I did make it to a thrift store that I had been wanting to go to since it opened. I found this fabric and trim. I have been planning on making the grandaughters some summer dresses and tops, so this will be perfect for that.

There is a restaurant that we go to quite often. I usually order grapefruit for breakfast there. One of the cooks there usually makes my grapefruit look a little more fun for me. What a guy! This is one of the happy faces he created for me. Some have been a little naughty and very funny!! It does make having my grapefruit while watching my husband eat a big yummy chorizo omelet a little more enjoyable!!

Fun Times & Great Weather

We have been having some really fun times lately. A few weeks ago we went to the Nostalgia Drags in Bakersfield, CA. Had so much fun watching all the old style cars.

Then the week after that we went to the King of the Cage fights at the Avi Casino. Several guys that we know fought and all but one of them won! YAY!

Then this last weekend we went with a bunch of friends on our motorcycles to Wickenburg, AZ. The weather was great all weekend. What a great time! We stopped at a few antique stores. Thought I would show you what I got. I was so excited with what I found!

This gown is just so pretty!! I really fell in love with it. The lace is absolutely gorgeous! And it is in nearly perfect condition. And the best part is --- it fits me perfect! Well, it's a little long, but everything usually is on me. It is cut on the bias and was obviously hand made.

And I got this cute little sewing basket filled with someone's crochet lace tablecloth project in it with the original pattern and the thread. Needless to say, I fell in love again!!
Th only bad thing is, I am not a very good crocheter. So I started sewing together what squares there are done. It won't be very big, but big enough for a small end table or so. Who knows -- maybe i'll work on my crochet skills and try to finish it someday.

This sewing box was so cool, but belonged to the owner of the store, so I could only drool over it! She did give me permission to take some pics of it. I had never seen one like it before. It has a handle on the top and latches on the side. I think I am gonna talk my husband into building me one. I know it won't be the same as a vintage one, but still pretty cool.

These are some little baby tees that I added some trim to for a baby shower for my friend. I have to get busy and get something else made for her, her shower is just around the corner!

Well, these aren't the best pics, but the bracelet was from my son and daughter-in-law. Isn't it cute. It is so vintagey! Love it! It came from the best store in town (besides the antique and thrift stores!). The store is called Bella. And the girls there have such a knack for buying and displaying the awesomest stuff! My wonderful daughter got me these cool antique finds! I LOVE them!! Some antique crepe paper, in the package still. And in perfect shape. This little "Weave It" loom that she has been looking for one for herself forever ( and she gave it to ME!). It is tiny and adorable and I can't wait to weave some little pretty on it! And this old ink bottle in my favorite color! The label is so cool and it is filled with nibs for caligraphy!!!

Gettin' Old

OK, so, I'm gettin old! But I don't feel old! I had my 52nd birthday last week and it was so nice.

My sister who has been visiting us left on my birthday, so that part was sad. But we had a nice family dinner with all our grandkids and kids the nite before, and the nite before that too! My sister made me this beautiful sewing machine cover!

Isn't it pretty!!?? I just love it and that she hand embroidered it just for me!! the star on the side she made with pieces my Mom had cut for a quilt before she passed away. So of course that makes it even more special!

My awesome husband got me a weaving loom for my birthday! I was so excited. I have been wanting a loom for so long!!
